Austin Ross - 3rd at WSSF Big Air

Core coach Austin Ross spun to 3rd place at the WSSF Big Air finals - April 12 2008

Body

There is no bigger event at the World Ski & Snowboard Festival than the crowd pleasing Big Air. Core Ski Camp coaches Chris Turpin and Austin Ross both spun their way into the Semi Finals on Saturday night.
In practice, doubles were being thrown a plenty and early favorites Justin Dorey (with his double flatspin 1080), Ian Cosco (with his double cork 12) and local boys Chris Turpin and Austin Ross (with their kangaroo flips) were blowing the crowd away with their antics while most of the snowboarders were having a tough time figuring out the speed.
Things changed a bit once the comp actually got going as Dorey and Turpin both disappointingly crashed on their doubles after stomping the piss out of them in practice. Austin Ross also crashed on his first attempt but then stomped his version of a kangaroo flip on the second, also securing himself a spot.Austin Ross and Ian Williams took turns throwing their best 5’s, 7’s and 9’s plus one of their choosing. In the end, Austin took a very respectable 3rd place - stoked!

Core Ski Camp update

An amazing start to the Camps and the snowfall to date = 23 feet (7 meters)

Body

Welcome to the 2007~08 winter season at Core Ski Camp in beautiful Whistler, BC, Canada. There's been so much snow and powder skiing that we haven't been able to get off the mountains to
update the website until now.

Since the beginning of December, Whistler has been having one of the snowiest starts to the season on record, and we've been riding that snow every day. It's been great so far. To date (Feb 2 2008) we've seen over 23 feet or 7 meters of snow.

We've had some great groups and fun riders so far from all corners of the world and a big range of levels. Each camper sets their goals at the beginning of the week with their coaches and we have an amazing time on the way to reaching the goals.

We've worked on body position & technique, carving, sliding turns, steep runs, different grabs, ridden parks, built jumps and practiced new tricks in the back country, learned boxes and rails, ridden the Blackcomb super pipe and most of all, floated in miles and miles of powder day after day.
It's only February and there's still 3 more months of great snow and conditions at Core Ski Camps in Whistler.
Keep on skiing and remember, you only live once.
